Learning Sequence

Activity 2: Help (Commerce)

1. PLAY the video segment

In the video, Tye had trouble managing his credit card. In fact, the card was cancelled. Nik also had trouble with his credit card - and mobile phone bill, too. His car was repossessed because there was money owing on it.

Who could Tye and Nik have contacted for advice before things got out of hand?

2. COMPILE a list of organisations which can help with credit and consumer problems, including disputes with sellers and financial advice. You can start your research by checking the contacts section on this website.

3. SELECT one organisation and find out:

a. its purpose
b. the service(s) it provides
c. how to access the services

The NSW Office of Fair Trading website ( www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au ) and the Consumer Affairs Victoria website ( www.consumer.vic.gov.au ) also have contact information.

4. REPORT back to your class on your findings.

This activity can be found in the NSW Money Stuff Teacher resource book– Commerce page 30.
