Getting your computer ready
Check your monitor
Set your screen area to 800x600 or 1024x768 (recommended). Select whichever one you feel comfortable with. To do this:
Windows
Click on the Start menu, then Settings, then Control Panel, then Display.
Macintosh
Click on the Apple menu, then Control Panels, then Monitors & Sound.
Note: if you choose 800x600, you may need to turn off your Favourites or Bookmarks panel on the left-hand side of your web browser so you can see the whole page.
Check your web browser
Money Stuff! is designed to work with either:
Windows
Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
Netscape 6.2 or higher
Macintosh
Internet Explorer 5.1 or higher
Netscape 6.2 or higher
Money Stuff! will also work if you are using the FireFox or Safari browsers.
Which browser?
To find out which version of the browser you are using, start your web browser, then…
Windows
Pull down the Help menu, then About Internet Explorer or About Netscape. You'll see the version number at the top of the screen.
Macintosh
Select the Apple icon, located top left of screen and then select About
Internet Explorer or Netscape 6
To download a new browser go to:
Internet Explorer: www.microsoft.com/windows/ie
Netscape: www.netscape.com and scroll down to ‘Downloads of the day’
Check that you have Flash player
You may need to download the latest Flash Player. Go to
www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer and follow the instructions on the screen. If you have problems installing Flash, go to
www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/playerfaq.htm#fixall and follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: if you're in a large organisation, a network administrator may need to do this installation for you - contact your IT support staff for advice.
Check that you have an Office application
Some sections of Money Stuff! contain RTF documents so that you may save them easily. To open these, you will need an Office application that can read files in the .doc format, for example:
Microsoft Office – the most widely used Office application; as a student you may be able to obtain a student pricing, ask when you purchase.
Open Office – if you don't have Microsoft Office and you're looking for good value, this is a powerful and stable Office application that is developed by the 'open source' community; available as a free (but very big) download from www.openoffice.org; also available on CD-ROM for around $10.00 –
$15.00 (see mail order details on website, also stocked in many newsagents).

Macintosh

I'm having problems installing Flash Player
Sometimes, problems with a Flash Player that's already installed can prevent your upgrading to the latest player. If you have problems installing Flash, go to www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/playerfaq.htm#fixall and follow the instructions on the screen.
The back button on my browser does not work properly
If you use the browser back button, you may sometimes have to click it twice or more to go back one screen. We recommend you use the navigation menu on the left or on the top rather than using the back button on your browser's menu bar.
I'm having problems printing
Wherever possible in the Challenge, use the Print button within the Challenge to print the text.To print from the information pages, go to Print on the menu bar of your browser toolbar to print the page you are currently viewing.
